Chocolat, Limerick

Blogger: Lauren Lucy Crowley

I don’t often venture to Limerick, and so when I found myself there recently I was pleasantly surprised at how much the city has to offer! Chosen as Ireland’s first ever Irish City of Culture in 2014, it has since been a hub of arts, cultural and sporting events. With an intriguing newly renovated castle, a lively art museum, a contemporary cafe culture, to go with its highly regarded nightlife, it will come as no surprise that we found ourselves spoilt for choice while looking for a place for something to eat!

Rather than popping into the first restaurant we saw, we decided to investigate and asked a few locals where they would recommend we go for dinner. Chocolat proved hugely popular among those who we asked, and so off we ventured to O’Connell St. to check it out!

What looked like a trendy, chic restaurant from the outside, did not disappoint on the inside. Greeted by a hostess, and given the choice of which table to sit at, we chose a cosy looking window table….. so that we could watch the people of Limerick go by, (people watching is possible on of my favourite things to do!)

Although a Wednesday the restaurant was reasonably busy, which we could only assume was a good sign! The menu had a huge variety to choose from – all at exceptional value! We decided to treat ourselves to a 4 course meal, for only €25.00! Madness!

I can safely say, my appetite was truly satisfied as I finished off the very last bite of my warm sticky toffee pudding with a thick caramel sauce drizzled over it. Having enjoyed a mouth- watering skewered chicken satay for starters, and a tasty seafood paella for mains, I don’t think it would have been possible to fit another crumb in. I gladly welcomed the refreshing herbal tea which we were served in an elegant teapot, and enjoyed over a chat.

With a relaxed atmosphere, and very friendly staff we felt welcome to linger in the restaurant for a while planning where we would adventure to next! We eventually left the fabulous Chocolat full to the brim, and with more than enough energy to explore the rest of what Limerick has to offer!

Highly recommend a trip to this delightful restaurant next time you’re passing through Limerick! 🙂
