Recently, we were delighted to be invited to experience The MET restaurant which is newly opened after an impressive refurbishment, along with its fresh taste from its newly launched menu. The new Bar and Restaurant is located at the Metropole Hotel, Cork. When we arrived we were able to relax in their new warm, elegant decor with a refreshing cocktail from their superb drinks menu before dinner. A little piece of heaven.
The new menu is a mix of simplicity and elegance. It is all about simplicity but with the best products. The chef sources the finest ingredients each week locally. Cork has some of the finest ingredients in the world and it is great to see local ingredients being used throughout the new menu. All their beef is handpicked 100% Irish Beef to ensure the most succulent beef every time.
For starter we enjoyed roasted asparagus, smoked bacon crisp, crispy egg nished with a silky Hollandaise sauce. We also tried the parmesan cheese shortbread biscuit, spring vine tomato compote and goats cheese mousse. For main we indulged in Derek McCarthy’s grass fed 8oz fillet of hereford beef, confit tomatoes with a rosemary jus and the other main course we tried was pan fried fillet of hake with crispy kale, black pudding grits and a white wine cream sauce. For dessert it was one of my favourites, a strawberry mille feuille with mascarpone cream and the other dessert we were treated to was a classic beacon pie with a dollop of vanilla cream. All I can say is each dish was as tasty and beautiful as the next. I was highly impressed. The locally sourced produce, along with the simplicity and elegance is a matched made in heaven.
I normally get a little nervous going to enjoy a new menu as I have an intolerance to onion. I can honestly say from the moment I sat down, they insured I would be perfect safe and with each course guaranteed me that there was no onion in my dish. They were able to tailor the dish to suit me without any fuss which I really appreciated. It allowed me to sit back and relax, knowing my intolerance wasn’t going to be an issue.
