I wasn’t quite sure what to expect upon arrival into Hong Kong, and so was pleasantly surprised when I fell in love with the city at first sight! Known for its skyline and deep natural harbour, Hong Kong shares its northern border with the Guangdong Province of Mainland China. With around 7.2 million inhabitants the city is one of the world’s most densely populated metropolises!
Our accommodation was located right in the heart of the fashion district and so as soon as we set down our bags we were off to explore the new city! Although all the street signs were in Chinese, the locals had an excellent grasp of the English language and so it wasn’t a problem finding our way around at all! We even became masters at the public transport system!
There is an abundance of shopping malls to suit every budget from high street shops to luxurious top designer brands, however, my favourite shopping experience was definitely at the street markets! If you’re looking for some excellent bargains I highly recommend a trip to Ladies Market! Located on Tung Choi Street, it’s very easy to find! Be sure to leave at least a couple of hours – although relatively small in size compared to other Asian markets there are some excellent stalls!
We also took a trip to the stunning Victoria Peak during our stay in Hong Kong, this for me was most definitely the highlight! We rode “The Peak Tram” which is the quickest and most scenic way to arrive at the summit! Although we queued for approximately 40 mins before boarding the tram, it was an amazing experience – it was such a steep incline it genuinely felt as though we were on a roller coaster! When we arrived at the top, we had a breathtaking 360 degree panoramic view of the entire city! I recommend taking this trip in the evening as you get to capture the view in the magical sunset! Such a memorable experience!
Although quite a short trip, I truly enjoyed my time in Hong Kong! It is a wonderful city! I highly recommend taking a trip there!
