I don’t know about you but I used to love painting along on The Den on RTÉ with Don Conroy. My favourite time of the day was Draw with Don on The Den. Anybody else remember those happy times from their childhood? Over lockdown, Don’s YouTube channel took off and many people rekindled their love for art and drawing. Now you can draw live as The Lodge at Ashford have launched a painting workshop with the talented Don Conroy. I love when you can mix a hobby you love with a staycation. It makes for a fantastic break away.
From 2nd – 4th October 2020, guests can learn how to paint or improve upon existing artistic skills under the expert tutelage of the YouTube star in the beautiful surrounds of the award-winning Lodge at Ashford on the 350-acre Ashford Castle estate.
Don, who was a regular guest on RTE’s The Den in the 80s and 90s delighted the nation once again during the recent lockdown with the timely launch of his Draw with Don YouTube channel. A working artist, writer, television presenter, naturalist and environmentalist, Don will bring a rich tapestry of creativity, skill and fun to guests attending this special weekend break.
The two workshops will be hosted in Wilde’s Restaurant at The Lodge, offering stunning views across Lough Corrib, which is sure to inspire the group of budding artists. All guests will be provided with the requisite materials for creating their masterpieces, which will be a lasting memory of their break. Early booking is recommended as spaces are limited for this unique opportunity to learn from the best.
Prices for a two-night B&B break including a drinks reception hosted by Don Conroy, dinner each evening plus the weekend painting tutorial, start from:
- €765 for two people sharing a Deluxe room
- €1257 for two adults and two children under 12 years in a Suite
- Prices and room choice subject to availability at time of booking
Guests will enjoy 2 dinners in the Lodge prepared by Executive head chef, Jonathan Keane and his team. Chef Keane believes in sourcing local and only serving seasonal produce – a philosophy that has earned him many acclaimed awards.
For guests who wish to build on their getaway, there is a myriad of activities to enjoy on the estate including horse-riding, fishing, zip-lining, cycling and Ireland’s first school of falconry.
The Lodge at Ashford, along with Ashford Castle are the first hotels in Ireland to be awarded the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation, for the implementation of rigorous protocols in response to biorisk situations, such as COVID-19.
The international accreditation verifies that both Ashford Castle and The Lodge implement best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from pandemics, ensuring that the most stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention are employed.
