RED TRAVEL – EPISODE 5

Hey guys! Welcome back to RedTravel. We are very excited to share with you our next episode of RedTravel and we have a very good show lined up for you. This week, we are heading to the beautiful town of Cobh – just 25 minutes by car or train from Cork City.

We are starting the day by going on a tour of the historic tour with Cobh Road Train. It is a unique attraction to the town of Cobh. It gives a perfect combination ofbreathtaking panoramic views of the town and local history. The perfect activity for all ages – the young kids will love the spin on the train and the adults will be amazed by the knowledge and information along the way. Ideal for young and old alike, Cobh Road Train takes you on a whistlestop tour of the fantastic town of Cobh. It is a fun outing for all the family and the train itself is in the style of “Thomas the Tank Engine” which is undoubtedly be popular with children.

We are then getting the ferry to Spike Island… It has been on my summer bucket list to go explore the island and take a tour to learn all the history of the people and places that make Spike Island so special.  In the last 1300 years Spike Island has been host to a 6th century Monastery, a 24 acre Fortress, the largest convict depot in the world in Victorian times and centuries of island homes.  The island’s rich history has included monks and monasteries, rioters and redcoats, captains and convicts and sinners and saints. Today the island is dominated by the 200 year old Fort Mitchel which became a prison holding over 2300 prisoners.  You can take the ferry from Kennedy Pier, Cobh but I would advise booking early to be sure to get on your tour of choice. It books up fast. On the island you can enjoy a fully guided tour of our island and fortress and hear all the stories from Spike Island.

We then the water with Andrew of Ocean Escapes who is going to take us on a sea safari trip in Cork Harbour. An Ocean Escapes sea safari experience is one that can’t be missed. The perfect outing for any age, everyone in your group will have the time of their lives exploring the waters and coastlines of Cork Harbour. It was voted one of the top 10 adventure activities to do in Cork and I can see why. Not only is Andrew a great tour guide but he knows all the secret places to explore along the coastline of Cork Harbour and it is amazing to see all the wildlife along the trip. To book your trip head over to OceanEscapes.ie.

In the second half of the show, we went on a road trip in the US or A. We drove from Napa Valley to San Francisco! It’s one for your buckets list. I also share my top 5 things to do in the beautiful city of San Francisco.
